Nettie

A large Raggedy Ann doll with red yarn hair and a floral dress.

Among the most unsettling areas connected to this collection is the furnace room — a dark lower section of the property where three female vessels were positioned together near a recessed crawl space extending beneath the house. From the earliest days of the estate acquisition, investigators reported being inexplicably drawn to this location, describing the atmosphere as oppressive, heavy, and intensely active.

The three women identified through sessions and journal references are believed to be Nettie, Maria, and Lorena.

The number three repeatedly surfaced during investigations and writings connected to Roger. Researchers noted references aligning with historical religious teachings surrounding plural marriage and exaltation, specifically doctrines claiming men were required to take at least three wives to achieve the highest spiritual state in the afterlife. While no official marriage records connecting Roger to these women have been found, repeated spirit communication sessions and journal excerpts appeared to imply a significant bond between them.

Of the three, Nettie remains the most disturbing and least understood.

Investigators describe experiences with her as gruesome, deceptive, and psychologically overwhelming. Early sessions reportedly produced fragmented visions believed at first to depict her life, though later communications suggested these images may have been false or stolen memories rather than authentic experiences.

During one spirit box session conducted by a group, the words “first,” “stolen,” “military,” and the chilling phrase “quarter of flesh” reportedly came through in sequence.

Later sessions shifted in tone entirely. Investigators described sudden visions of a military base, a red-splattered apron, and women dressed in white gathered around a wide podium in a stark white room. Witnesses reported seeing women with covered heads standing in a circle, holding hands while chanting phrases they could not fully understand. The repeated words “marrow,” “bones,” and “strength of loin” allegedly surfaced again and again during the experience, accompanied by nausea, trembling, and overwhelming dread.

When researchers demanded clarification about the visions, loud knocking sounds reportedly erupted throughout the room, followed by what sounded like a heavy metal door slamming repeatedly somewhere beneath the house.

Attempts to ask Nettie directly about her family or past relationships often resulted in silence paired with a mounting physical pressure in the room. During one session, an investigator reportedly asked, “Did you marry Roger?” and received an immediate affirmative response, followed by a sudden mental image of a woman in white tumbling downward before vanishing completely.

Despite the disturbing nature of the sessions, investigators noted that the three female vessels never appeared hostile toward one another. Rather than conflict, witnesses described a strange territorial unity surrounding the corner they occupied. The space itself repeatedly impressed upon visitors the same phrase:

“Off limits.”

Journal entries attributed to Roger describe Nettie escorting a young women’s group to a conference where he allegedly encountered them. Other writings referenced “the commons” and described “seeking them as commodities,” language investigators found deeply unsettling when read aloud in the furnace room itself.

Researchers conducting readings in the room reported overwhelming waves of pressure and intense vibrations while speaking excerpts believed to reference the three women. One investigator recounted directly addressing Nettie about the religion and beliefs connected to Roger, at which point a small basement window reportedly began rattling violently while dirt stirred within the recessed crawl space nearby. The smell of fresh earth allegedly filled the room.

The investigator further described feeling intense pressure on the shoulders and back before verbally demanding that any entities present respect established boundaries and step away. According to the account, the pressure lifted immediately afterward.

When asked directly if the three women were Roger’s “spirit wives,” investigators reported receiving a clear affirmative response.

To those involved in the sessions, the three women remain among the most visually disturbing and emotionally overwhelming entities connected to the collection.
